In Carrie’s Words

I spent my twenties pondering my purpose and, for the most part, feeling a sense of disconnectedness. As an interior designer, I experienced lots of outward success. Wealthy clients. Magazine shoots. Recognition for my work. But I was always questing for more.

I wasn’t satisfied with superficial notions of beauty and style. And because I believe so strongly in equality, interior design made me uncomfortable at times. I was working with the haves—have more money, more opportunities, more education. I wanted to extend my expertise to a much broader demographic—to extend style to everyone, because everyone should have style, and to help people live more authentically.

So I started thinking about the true meaning of style and meaning.

Beauty is …

Mysterious and all-revealing, all at once.

Confident yet modest.

Anything that makes your heart sing.

Almost always found in joy.

True beauty comes from having a beautiful soul.

And my understanding of style also changed.

Style is …

Everything.

Writing style. Speaking style. Leadership style.

Fashion. Art. Architecture.

Style is the way you say it, the way you do it, the way you live it.

Sometimes it’s an appearance. Sometimes it’s an attitude.

It’s the lightning of life. At its best, it reflects the soul.

So I started Style Statement. Finally, I had beauty and meaning. My separate worlds became one.
