Matisyahu from the Idaho Statesman

What I’m loving this week:

  1. Cool crafts through the Hand in Hand program. Kate Spade has partnered up with Women for Women International to support women in Africa to create beautifully crafted products. Warms you from your head to your heart.
  2. American Hasidic Jewish reggae. Matisyahu’s music shakes my soul. “All of my songs are influenced and inspired by the teachings that inspire me. I want my music to have meaning.” Listen to “One Day,” from his Light CD.
  3. This phrase from Robin Wright’s interview in Redbook magazine: “Stepping into the fear to obtain joy.” Newly divorced from Sean Penn, Robin is a dedicated mamma embarking on the second phase of her acting career.
  4. Mathew Hutson’s reference to Steve Jobs’ creativity in Psychology Today. Apparently, people “pick the artist over the operations guy,” preferring to work with creative thinkers and visionaries.
  5. Walnuts — my great daily afternoon treat. Walnuts aid the brain because of their high concentration of omega-3 fats. Here’s to Brain Power!

  1. totally cool! someone else who is listening to matisyahu — found his cd in my daughter’s car a while back and can’t get enough…

  2. isn’t he amazing, so poetic!

  3. I cheerfully ate walnuts as my morning snack today, and I am listening to One Day right now — beautiful. Yes to #1 for sure! I am turning more “radical” in my gift giving: If it isn’t something locally/regionally made, which by buying I will be supportive artisans nearby, then I am going global with that same handmade mission. I just bought two items, each empowering women in rural villages. By buying their arts/crafts/goods, they have finances for education, for providing for their families, not to mention they also are validated through their own talents and abilities. … And of course ultimately not only these individual women benefit, but their entire communities reap the rewards.

By that same token, I was excited when a World Vision Gift Catalog arrived this week. It is AMAZING what even $18 can do. They’re online at http://www.worldvisiongifts.org if anyone is interested in finding out more.
