Vintage Treasure

Carrie in her vintage treasure

I was recently invited to a fancy cocktail party – very chichi. I have a couple of standard Refined pieces appropriate for such an occasion, from a navy Prada shift dress to a little black dress to a navy jumpsuit. All felt acceptable, but lacked the Treasure part of my Style Statement.

Next to my doctor’s office is a second-hand store I browse through after each appointment. Baby in hand and 15 minutes to spare, I used my eagle eye and found a beautiful treasure of a dress for $10. My heart was pounding. It fit perfectly, but was it too much for me? So much color, so bold yet with a simple silhouette. I bought it. Did I dare wear a summer dress to the party even though autumn had arrived? Would it be appropriate?

The party arrives and I slip on my new dress, arrange my hair in a low chignon, and add gold hoop earrings. The dress is a big hit.

The moral of the story is to stretch your boundaries, step into being uncomfortable, take a risk, and uncover the edgy you.

I felt fabulous, and so me.

Thanks Kathleen, lovely to hear from you.

  4. Yes, what a wonderful find and perfect choice! You’re beautiful and you’re glowing! Aren’t you so glad you stretched your boundaries?! This (clothing wise) is a place where I need to develop/exhibit a bit more elasticity, so thank you for such a beautiful and successful example. I love my comfy brown sweaters and low-key items, but sometimes I shine much more when I exude a bit of edge and daring. And sometimes it merely requires the addition of unique accessories that I already have in my drawer but must remind myself to wear.
