What’s your Signature Piece?

July 21st, 2009

Paloma PicassoStyle is everything. Writing style. Speaking style. Leadership style. Fashion. Art. Athletics. Style is the way you say it, the way you do it, the way you live it. There is only one you. Communicating who you are is powerful.

What’s your signature piece? Consider your creative edge, the second word of your Style Statement – your 20%. It describes your uniqueness, the way you do what you do.

Consider…

  • Paloma Picasso’s red lipstick
  • Richard Gere‘s sexy strut
  • Drew Barrymore’s raw honesty
  • Michelle Obama’s arms
  • Ellen DeGeneres’s humor

Make a list of your unique qualities, internal and external. Choose one or two you’re most drawn to and focus on them, remembering that what we focus on expands. Be known for being uniquely you. Depending on your creative twist, you might become known for wearing chunky necklaces, carrying bright handbags, driving an old Mustang convertible, giving hugs, writing thank you notes, being truthful.

Make a statement!

  1. This is so true. We need to embrace, enhance, celebrate, and showcase those more core aspects/attributes of ourselves (and extend the celebrating and showcasing to what those around us are “famous” for too). Carrie, I also love this reminder because while we are likely already known in our circles for something, it’s never too late to add another stylish “creative twist” to our authentic repertoire — and using our Style Statement 20% word is a perfect way to discover it.
