Style Statement Hero

The Golden Reflection of a Tree, by Irargerich“The Hero archetype represents the ego’s search for identity and wholeness.”
~ Christopher Volger, The Writer’s Journey

I’ve found that when my back is against the wall, when a hard choice presses its blade against the tender part of my throat, what I reach for is my Style Statement. Sounds a little overblown, doesn’t it? But Style Statement packs real power in its ability to disarm, to expose the truth at the core of the conflict.

If I follow the blade from my throat, I find it gripped by my own hand.

When we act like a hero – by consciously choosing to protect, to serve, and to embrace our own value – we lose our limitations, we discover and grow, we rise above, we prosper.

Face problems with your whole self intact. Look the threat in the eye. Stand firm, stand tall, be strong at the core, and then give yourself over to the solution. Like a hero, give of yourself in order to make things better. Give your all. Give all of yourself.

A Style Statement is a condensed hero’s how-to manual, two words that speak volumes, the story of you. A Style Statement identifies the flame at your core, clarifies your quest, and prepares you for heroics.

And the hero, out front, exposed, with no one blocking her vision, has a clear view of the wide horizon.

  1. This is so true: “Style Statement packs real power in its ability to disarm, to expose the truth at the core of the conflict.” And part of that power is because, as you say later, it is “the story of you.” Knowing (and acknowledging and honoring) what’s at your core serves as a grand, solid foundation upon which to to ponder, to proclaim, to launch, to rest … It empowers you for extraordinary heroics, all while better equipping you for authentic peacefulness.

  2. [...] to the Style Statement blog for posting an article I wrote called “Style Statement Hero.” This was written by Grace Kerina. Posted on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 2:25 pm. Filed [...]
