Could this really be for me? I wonder, just before my Style Statement consultation. I’m 22 years old, nearly a university graduate – it’s safe to say I’m not exactly in the demographic of the typical Style Statement client. I sit down in a comfortable chair, grab the phone, and get ready to face the dearest, most intimate parts of myself for the next hour.
“What are some of the things you love?” This is the first question I’m met with while speaking with Grace to begin my consultation. What a great question. I relax and answer. For the next hour I candidly chat, unafraid to share information. The experience is far different from the self-conscious experience I thought it might be.
In fact, I love getting right down to the nitty-gritty and answering as honestly as I can. I spare no detail about myself, from what my ideal house would look like to how I make jokes with the dentist at in-opportune moments. I think this will really make Grace’s job easier in trying to figure out who I am!
I’m shocked at the ease with which I am pin-pointed and characterized by just two words. It actually feels liberating to be understood in these terms. I learn that my Style Statement is Genuine Treasure – so, of course, all these things are very important to me: honesty and openness, the comfort of others, and the silly extras that make life glittery.
After we talk for a while about what it means to be Genuine Treasure, Grace informs me that it can’t all be fun and games. This process is not about being self-indulgent – talking about yourself for awhile and then being christened with a flattering new moniker. She informs me that I have homework to do.
Along with the great parts of my Style Statement, there are red flags. The red flags direct me to areas of my life that could benefit from introspection. Grace suggests some things to think about and directs me to some specific reading from the Style Statement book. We hang up and I feel ready to take control of my life through the angle of my new-found knowledge about myself.
A Style Statement is as much about who you are as what you need to strive for. The first word is about your fundamental self. For me, Genuine is 80% of how I express myself – the bedrock of the choices I make. The second word, my Treasure, at 20%, is a perfect complement to the first word. It’s the unique parts of me. Like for all of us, if I were in that 80/20 balance, my life would be perfect.
But this is not usually the case.
So, while each of my Style Statement’s words truly describes me and helps me understand how I’m motivated, I can always be more mindful of keeping that balance in all areas of my life.
I’m excited to explore post-grad life with my Style Statement. I hope you’ll join me as I learn and grow with Style Statement. I promise to always be candid about the trials and tribulations of living an authentic life, and my highest hope is that my experiences help guide you through yours.
Of course, Genuine Treasure couldn’t really have it any other way!

Excellent site, keep up the good work
Thanks Bill!
